Getting Started

Yup, I've finally come to the conclusion I need to make some changes. This is how I looked at the end of our mission in Africa. Not sure how much I weighed then. I came home at 260 lbs. Yesterday I weighed in at 252. I am taking Lisinipril for high blood pressure 140/90 and Simvastatin for high cholesterol. I have been experiencing severe heart pain and took a stress test two weeks ago. It came out normal and am scheduled for a more intensive one tomorrow. However, the worst is a significant lack of energy. So, as I have learned as a bishop, people make changes better when they hold themselves accountable and that is what I am doing here. I am committed to losing at least 30 pounds and improve my health with better eating. Attached below is a list of good and bad foods I have researched. Hope they might do others some good. I am also going to keep a daily progress record.

Friday, January 31, 2014

31 January 2014 - 245.3 lbs.
What the heck is going on. I'm moving in the wrong direction. I had two sessions on the elliptical and did other strengthening exercises. Too much Top Ramen last night????  Anyway I visited my primary care physician yesterday. She indicated my blood pressure was great and my cholesterol numbers were fantastic.

Thursday, January 30, 2014

30 January 2014 - 243.4 lbs.
Had granola for breakfast. Ate little throughout the day. Had three cups of Top Ramen late last night; not the best idea.

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

29 January 2014 - 241.2 lbs.
Not looking forward to the weigh in tomorrow. Had granola for breakfast and chicken for dinner. However, in between I kind lof lost it. Had lots of figs and two corn quesadillas. I'm sure there was some other stuff in there as well. Did do two 15 minute sessions on the elliptical.

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

28 January 2014 - 242.3 lbs.
Half a pound up? How can this be? Had home-made granola for breakfast; oats, dates, sliced almonds and honey powder. Salad for lunch and too tired to eat dinner.

Monday, January 27, 2014

27 January 2014 - 241.9 lbs.
I feel pretty good today. Hoping to start my 3-a-days on the elliptical.
Only did two sessions on the elliptical. Had a smoothie for breakfast and for dinner had lots of salad.

Sunday, January 26, 2014

26 January 2014 - 243.9 lbs.
Had a smoothie for breakfast. Because it was Sunday I had nothing else to eat until Teri's party. There, I had a little funeral potatoes and fruit.

Saturday, January 25, 2014

25 January 2014 - 242.8 lbs.
Very disappointing. It is apparent that I will need to increase my activity level. Because it's been so cold lately I have been very inactive as I can't do anything outside. Did fifteen minutes on the elliptical in the morning and again in the evening. Had a big salad for lunch and two pieces of chicken for dinner. Does this sound so bad?

Friday, January 24, 2014

24 January 2014 - 244.9 lbs.
Ouch! I really expected to have lost, not gained. How much can broccoli and cauliflower weigh?
Had chicken salad for lunch and fresh green beans and onions for dinner.

Thursday, January 23, 2014

23 January 2014 - 243.4 lbs.
While none of it was bad I did consume a lot yesterday. For lunch I had two cups of chicken soup(home made of course) and for dinner I had a ton of broccoli and cauliflower(ok I exagerated. It was only a half ton.)

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

22 January 2014 - 241.1 lbs.
Not bad considering I ate half a chicken last night. Fifteen minutes on the elliptical this morning. I'm going to focus on drinking a lot of water today. I did drink a lot of fluids. Had oatmeal for breakfast, lots of vegetables for lunch(celery, carrots and cream cheese dip) and home made chicken soup for dinner.

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

21 January 2014 - 243.3 lbs.
Lunch consisted of two vegi-burers. These were not great but the only ones I've found that are good.
Dinner was baked chicken. Really good covered with spices and cooked at 550 degrees for about 25 minutes to cook the outside then lowered the temperature to 250 for about an hour. Very good flavor and tender.

Monday, January 20, 2014

20 January 2014 - 243.1 lbs.
Spent fifteen minutes on the elliptical keeping my heart rate at about 120. Met with my cardiologist. He indicated my heart and lungs sounded perfect. Blood pressure was 95/70. He cut my blood pressure lowering meds in half.  Had lots of vegetables for lunch and watermelon shortly after.

Sunday, January 19, 2014

19 January 2014 - 243.7 lbs.
Yup, it's getting discouraging, but continuing through. I've decided since remembering what I ate the previous day to correlate with weight loss is too challenging so I'm going to record in the evening what I consumed for the day. Yesterday I had two eggs with vegetables scrambled together. For lunch we had vegetables and cream cheese dip. For dinner a salad. So, I can't understand why there was no loss. AND I did some time on the elliptical.

Today we had a fruit and vegetable smoothie for breakfast and baked chicken for dinner. Tasted good and hope it was good for weight loss.

Saturday, January 18, 2014

18 January 2014 - 245.0 lbs.
Yesterday's meals included oatmeal, two chicken thighs, salad.

Friday, January 17, 2014

17 January 2014 245.5 lbs
Very disappointing. Yesterday I ate a big salad, pineapple, enchilada soup(really good). Really, that's all. AND I would like to add that last night I was in a meeting where dinner was served. It consisted of Brick Oven pizza and Fettuccini Alfredo, diet coke and root beer. I HAD NONE OF IT!

Thursday, January 16, 2014

16 January 2014 - 244.2 lbs.
Disappointing but in the right direction. I did consume a lot of fluids yesterday; close to one gallon. One gallon of water weighs approximately eight pounds. Foodwise I had eggs with vegetables for breakfast and a huge salad for dinner.

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

15 January 2014 - 244.8 lbs.
Dang! How can this be? Had a smoothie(vegie, fruit, protein) for breakfast. Went to work at the prison. Went directly to Luke's to see some homes and had a salad. Did not go with the rest of the family to Mama Chu's for dinner. Still gained 4/10 of a pound. What is up?

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

14 January 2014 - 244.4 lbs.
Kept busy for the first time in a long time. Spent four hours prepping and painting a wall. For meals I ate. Chicken, peas, onions, canteloupe,  and lots of water. Feel good. Feel positive.

Monday, January 13, 2014

13 January 2014 - 244.6lbs.
Not surprising that I am down. Yesterday was Sunday. I generally don't eat breakfast(Carol does her best to get me to). My first meeting is at 11:00 and I don't leave until about 5:30. We had dinner at Kate's at about 6:30 and had taco salad. Good stuff!

Sunday, January 12, 2014

12 January 2014 -247.4 lbs.
Well, I sure have hit a plateau. No doubt my inactivity has a significant impact or lack there of on my weight loss. The surgeon asked that I not do any exercising for a week, so maybe I'll start tomorrow. During the day I had an avocado, a sweet potato, two slices of bread(bad boy), and some walnuts. Doesn't sound bad. I do need to increase my water consumption.

Saturday, January 11, 2014

11 January 2014 - 248.6 lbs.
Disappointing to see the increase again. Throughout the day I ate a lot of walnuts, an avocado and a lot of chicken salad. I also ate two slices of bread. I haven't eaten bread for quite a while but I made some for Carol with non gluten flour and wanted to see how it tasted. It was pretty good although it  raised very little.

Friday, January 10, 2014

10 January 2014 - 247.7 lbs.
Though it's a small amount I hate to see the number go up. Yesterday I had a lot of sauteed beans for lunch and vegetable soup for dinner. Now that I think about it I realize I had three large helpings of beans and three large cups of soup. We'll see how it looks tomorrow.

Thursday, January 9, 2014

9 January 2014 - 246.6 lbs.
Let's see; I had a breakfast of scrambles eggs and potatoes in the hospital at around 11:00. They tasted terrible. For dinner we had chicken cooked in diced tomatoes with olives and Parmesan cheese.
I feel pretty good today. My worst pain is where the nurse injected me withr the pneumonia vaccine.

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

8 January 2014- 248.6 lbs.
I don't know how I could have gained 2/10 of a pound as I fasted for twelve hours before my angiogram. Maybe it's all the I.V's A stint was put in where the blockage was 95%. So things should go better in this area.

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

7 January 2014 - 248-4 lbs.
Progress looks slow but good. Yesterday I ate steamed vegetables with parmasen cheese for breakfast/lunch. Had some nuts mid-day and had a fruit and vegetable smoothie for dinner. I actually began exercising as well. I feel quite good this morning although I am feeling some anxiety over my angiogram later today. Hopefully I will be here tomorrow to report.

Monday, January 6, 2014

6 January 2014 - 249.6 lbs.
Since yesterday was fast Sunday I only had one meal. We had steamed vegetables at about 6:00 pm.

Sunday, January 5, 2014

5 January 2014-  250.4 lbs.
Can't really expect to have lost any weight as I pretty much expended no energy yesterday.
I got going pretty early so didn't eat breakfast. Around 11:00 I had oatmeal with apples. For dinner I had the left over taco soup.

Saturday, January 4, 2014

4 January 2014 - -250.8 lbs.
Had the nuclear stress test yesterday. Not good. Have to have an angiogram next Tuesday.
Can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday. Had taco soup for dinner. Lots of taco soup; beans, corn, tomatoes, more beans, onions, green chiles and chicken.

Friday, January 3, 2014

3 January 2014   251.2 lbs.
Yesterday I didn't eat any breakfast; too busy. For lunch I had some MorningStar sausages and deviled eggs. For dinner I had brown rice and stir fried vegetables...a lot. Last night I felt hungry but strangely satisfied. This morning I won't have breakfast as I am going to have my "Cardiac Perfusion Scan"; stress test with some isotope injected to see how the blood flows.

Thursday, January 2, 2014

2 January 2014 - 253 lbs.
First day gained 1 pound. Not unexpected as we went to Chuck-a-Rama for our last meal yesterday. Also drank a lot of liquids
